Welcome to Kindergarten! I am Cody Alexander and this is my 3rd year at Hilton Elementary. I am so thrilled to be your child’s teacher in Room 10 this year! I hold an Interdisciplinary Studies degree with a specialization in Early Childhood Education, which I earned at Texas State University. This year is my 16th year in education. Since 2001, I have been a teacher and instructional coach. I have taught kindergarten, first grade, fourth grade, and have worked with K-5th grade teachers. I am very passionate about teaching and look forward to working with a new group of children!
In the summer of 2013 our family moved to Brighton from San Antonio, Texas. We love the cooler climate and the amazing city of Brighton! What a beautiful state we live in! My husband, Jayson, and I have been married almost twelve years and have two amazing children; both attend Brighton Area Schools. This summer we went to the Dominican Republic and to Great Wolf Lodge in Traverse City. We enjoyed weekly library visits and local explorations. In my spare time I also enjoy reading, gardening, camping (well, "glamping"), cooking, and shopping locally.
How did I become the Lion Room? When I accepted the position with Brighton Area Schools, I was instructed to choose an animal mascot for my classroom. Taking the advice of a friend, I asked my son, who was about to enter kindergarten at the time, about his favorite animal. When he exclaimed, "LION!" I knew I had found my mascot. I find it fitting... fierce, king of the jungle, strong, a leader... PERFECT qualities for kindergarteners!
It's going to be a SPECTACULAR year!!!!!
